All About Eve- Studio Classics [DVD] [1950] £2.38 Alfred Hitchcock famously observed that movies should be more than just picture postcards of people talking. Sometimes, though, dialogue is all that’s needed. Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s immaculately scripted All About Eve is a case in point. There are no special effects (unless one considers Marilyn Monroe’s wiggle or a scene in which a car breaks down). What the movie offers instead is some of the mo… |

Celebrating Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve is the day before Christmas Day and it is mostly celebrated on December 24. Christmas Eve is traditionally the day for decorating churches and homes. It marks the beginning of the period formally known as Christmas-tide.
Every year, Christmas should be the sweet time for us to enjoy. It is the time of family union. After a long term of work in the whole year, it is the cherished time for us to have a good rest. In addition, we may have special moment to create the best wishes for the next year. The 2010 Christmas Eve is coming and most of us are looking forward to it. Then how do you spend the night of Christmas Eve?
Here are some Christmas Eve traditions:
Decorating a Christmas tree
People decorate Christmas trees on 24th December, in fact it is considered unlucky to bring in the tree in the house before that day. Therefore, the evening preceding Christmas Eve is also a time for decorating the Christmas Tree. Though in some places the tree is set up or decorated some weeks before Christmas Day on Thanksgiving Day.
Family time
Christmas Eve is also known by the term ‘Good Night’ in relation to the celebrations that go on during this evening right up to midnight. People over the world consider this a time to be spent with family and friends and celebrate with lots of music, dancing and food. In the evening, often just before bedtime, many families, particularly those with children, will hang up stockings on the fireplace or the end of their bed. These Christmas stockings are often red with a white fluffy trim, although they may be of any design and are often much bigger than the socks that they represent. Children hope that Santa Claus, a mythical figure thought to represent an ancient European saint, will enter their home via the chimney and fill their stocking with gifts, sweets and oranges. Just imagine the wonderful scenario with romantic snow, the warm house with wonderful Christmas trees, beautiful furnace and colorful gifts, everyone listening to the music with a portable DVD player. What a beautiful thing!
Christmas Feast
The meal on the Eve of Christmas varies in the menu and in the traditions associated with it. Though there are some basic items on the menu, but there are also different specialties prepared on Christmas in different parts of the world. Generally preparations of turkey, fish, chicken, salads and other varieties are prepared. It also includes Christmas cake and desserts in the form of Christmas puddings.
No matter how varied the ways of celebrating, the most important thing is that everyone has a good Christmas Eve Day!
